THANKSGIVING DAY

Thursday, November 28th

Just you?  Just you and a few?  If you are interested in participating in a church family Thanksgiving Day dinner, please contact Jane Olson at 535-4926.  We are anticipating dinner at 3:00 p.m.   Jane Olson has graciously offered her beautiful home and will have appetizers and football viewing ready whenever folks arrive.  Jane will graciously provide the turkey, stuffing, gravy, tomato aspic salad, cranberry sauce, maple glazed acorn squash and pumpkin pie!  We need only provide the rest of the feast including mashed potatoes, green vegetable, salad, and another dessert.  Perhaps you would like to bring your favorite Thanksgiving dish to share!  Friends and family, of course, are always welcome!  Need a ride?  We can do that too!

Collect for Thanksgiving Day:

Almighty and gracious Father, we give you thanks for the fruits of the earth in their season and for the labors of those who harvest them.  Make us, we pray, faithful stewards of your great bounty, for the provision of our necessities and the relief of all who are in need, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.     (BCP, p. 246)

WORSHIP HELP NEEDED:

Are you interested in reading scripture or leading prayers, serving as an acolyte, greeting folk as they arrive for worship, serving on the Altar Guild, arranging flowers, administering the chalice, helping with the Valle Vista Manor service on the third Sunday of every month, or officiating at Morning Prayer?  Are you interested in learning more about these ministries and needs?  Please speak with Jean.

An Outline of the Faith

commonly called the Catechism

  1. What is corporate worship?
    1. In corporate worship, we unite ourselves with others to acknowledge the              holiness of God, to hear God’s Word, to offer prayer, and to celebrate the sacraments.

The Book of Common Prayer,   p. 857

ROWL Update

The next ROWL plastics recycling drive is November 16th, 9am to 12 noon. Since some of our snowbirds have left for the winter, we will need to recruit more volunteers to help get the job done. So, join us and bring a friend. The more hands, the easier and faster the work goes.

The ROWL committee never sleeps, with so many projects going on. We have been busy

assembling recycling education kits for each of the elementary schools in town and will present them during assemblies on America Recycles Day, November 15th.

BOOK STUDY

I’m proposing two books for study.  The Heart of Christianity by Marcus Borg and Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks.  Take a look at each on Sunday, November 3rd , at Coffee Hour and vote for your preference!  We’ll start reading and discussing in November.

-Jean
